Chapter Eighteen
Taken
Mad Water Delta / Alien Realm
Ext. Mad Water Delta Area — Day
Blake takes Danny to Juba and rushes off holding the spear Juba gave him.
Danny
(to himself)
The spear? Something’s up.
Danny
(whispering)
Hey, Juba. What’re you doing? You’re scaring me. Wake up.
Juba seems not to hear.
Danny shakes him again.
This time, Juba’s eyes snap open, stare.
Danny recoils.
Danny
(nervously, with small laugh)
It’s me. Danny.
Still a confused look on Juba’s face.
He stands up, shakes his head, presses his hands to his ears.
When Danny tries again to communicate, Juba shrugs him off.
Close-Up — Juba’s Face
His pupils dilate and contract rapidly.
Behind his eyelids, we see flashes of light—brief, stroboscopic bursts.
A low, harmonic HUM fills the space, building in intensity.
The geometric patterns pulse in rhythm with the sound.
Juba’s fingers begin to twitch.
His mouth opens in a silent scream.
The golden energy tendrils suddenly flare brighter.
They pierce into Juba’s temples, chest, and palms.
His body convulses.
Lightning-fast montage
Star systems being born
Ancient civilizations rising and falling
DNA helixes unravelling and reforming
Earth from space, continents shifting
Juba’s body arches backward, every muscle taut.
A brilliant white light engulfs him.
The THRUM reaches a crescendo, then—the alien realm DISSOLVES like watercolours in rain.
Ext. Lighthouse Dome — Day
Juba’s eyes snap open.
He’s sitting on the ground, his clothes torn and singed.
Thunder RUMBLES overhead.
He gasps, sucking in air like a drowning man.
His hands shake uncontrollably as he touches his face, his chest.
He curls into a foetal position and begins to sob—deep, wrenching cries that mix with the howling wind.
Ext. Lighthouse Dome — Day
Seconds after the mirage vanished, daylight snaps into place.
Danny
(angry)
Speak to me!
But Budya has quietly come to them, places her arm about Juba.
Budya
(calmly)
Don’t be angry, Danny. He doesn’t mean it. He’s not with us and you must be patient with him.
Danny
I don’t get it.
Budya
(croaking)
His spirit has been taken. He must return to the cave to rest.
With that, Danny watches helplessly as they go.
Then he hears whining, looks down to see Drummer.
He squats, hugs the animal.
After a while, he wanders back to the lighthouse.
